The Human League is a Sheffield synth-pop band formed in 1977 and fronted by singer Philip Oakey with vocalists Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley. They began as an experimental electronic act on Virgin Records, with Reproduction and Travelogue, then reached wide audiences with Dare in 1981, which included "Don't You Want Me," "Love Action" and "Open Your Heart." Founding members Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh left to form Heaven 17. Later albums such as Hysteria, Crash, Romantic?, Octopus, Secrets and Credo in 2011 brought the discography to nine albums, with songs including "Mirror Man," "The Lebanon" and "Human." They earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. The group moved to Papillon Records in 2000 and continues to perform worldwide. Their concerts mix vintage synthesizers, bold visuals and a catalog that defined 1980s pop.
