Book The Cult
The Cult are a rock band that took shape in Bradford, England, in 1983, first billed as Death Cult before adopting their permanent name in early 1984. Singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy have anchored every era of the group as its longest-serving members and chief songwriters. Early on, the band built a devoted post-punk and gothic following with Dreamtime (1984) and Love (1985), the latter home to "She Sells Sanctuary" and "Rain". Working with producer Rick Rubin, they reinvented themselves as a hard rock force on Electric (1987), which delivered "Love Removal Machine", "Lil' Devil" and "Wild Flower". After relocating to Los Angeles, which has remained their base, they teamed with Bob Rock for Sonic Temple (1989) and its signature anthem "Fire Woman". The catalog continued with Ceremony (1991), The Cult (1994), Beyond Good and Evil (2001), Born Into This (2007), Choice of Weapon (2012), Hidden City (2016) and Under the Midnight Sun (2022), the last arriving after a 2020 deal with Black Hill Records. Their Love Live Tour (2010) revisited a classic record in full. On stage, The Cult pair Astbury's commanding vocals with Duffy's towering riffs for a full-throttle rock show.
