Book Shpongle
Shpongle is a psychedelic electronic project from England, formed in 1996 by Simon Posford and Raja Ram. The pair are counted among the originators of psybient, a style that joins world music, psychedelic trance and ambient textures, layering traditional sounds and vocals from around the globe over modern synthesizer-driven production. Their first track, "Vapour Rumours," appeared on the Infinite Excursions compilation from TIP Records in 1996, and their debut album Are You Shpongled? arrived in 1998 on Twisted Records. Six studio albums followed in all: Are You Shpongled?, Tales of the Inexpressible (2001), Nothing Lasts… But Nothing Is Lost (2005), Ineffable Mysteries From Shpongleland (2009), Museum of Consciousness (2013) and Codex VI (2017). In the partnership, Posford covers synthesizers, the studio side and live playing, while Raja Ram supplies big-picture musical ideas and flute arrangements. Since 2017 the duo has been reissuing earlier albums as remasters, with special edition vinyl at the center of the program. Their immersive, world-spanning sound is built for a full-production stage.
