Book Shinyribs
Shinyribs is a nine-piece swamp funk and Southern soul band from Austin, Texas, led by singer and guitarist Kevin Russell. Russell launched Shinyribs in 2007 as a solo outlet while playing in the long-running Austin band The Gourds, and the name, which came from a woman he had once shared a plate of ribs with, soon grew to cover a full band featuring drummer Keith Langford. By 2016 the lineup had expanded to include bass, keys, the Tijuana TrainWreck Horns and the Shiny Soul Sisters on backing vocals. Russell describes the sound as country-soul and swamp-funk, captured on albums such as Well After Awhile (2010), Gulf Coast Museum (2013), Okra Candy (2015), I Got Your Medicine (2017), the holiday set The Kringle Tingle (2018), Fog & Bling (2019), Late Night TV Gold (2021), Transit Damage (2023) and Leaving Time (2025). Shinyribs shows are famously exuberant, with Russell dancing across the stage or leading conga lines through the crowd, and the setlists mix originals with inspired covers like TLC's "Waterfalls" and Blackstreet's "No Diggity." It is a pure, joyful party.
