Book Sarah McBride
Sarah McBride is an American lawmaker, author and LGBTQ rights advocate who has represented Delaware's at-large congressional district in the U.S. House since 2025, making history as the first openly transgender member of Congress. Before Congress she represented Delaware's 1st Senate district from 2021 to 2025; her 2020 win made her the first openly transgender state senator in American history. Her career in public life began early: she worked on Delaware campaigns for Governor Jack Markell in 2008 and Attorney General Beau Biden in 2010, and in 2011 American University students chose her as their student body president. She was national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign from 2016 to 2021 and also worked at the Center for American Progress. In July 2016 she addressed the Democratic National Convention, the first openly transgender speaker at a major party convention. Her 2018 memoir, Tomorrow Will Be Different: Love, Loss, and the Fight for Trans Equality, carries a foreword by Joe Biden, and the 2025 documentary State of Firsts follows her 2024 race. She was named to the Out100 in 2022.
