Book Santana
Santana is the Latin rock band built around guitarist Carlos Santana, a Mexican-born musician who founded it in San Francisco in 1966. A 1969 set at the Woodstock Festival put the group in front of a national audience, and Columbia Records followed with Santana, Abraxas and Santana III. Abraxas, released in 1970, carried "Black Magic Woman" and "Oye Como Va." The classic lineup entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. The 1999 album Supernatural produced two Billboard Hot 100 number one singles, "Smooth" with Rob Thomas and "Maria Maria." Grammy.com lists eight wins from twelve nominations for Santana, among them Album of the Year for Supernatural, Record of the Year for "Smooth" and Best Rock Album. Carlos Santana has stayed with the band through every change of lineup, pairing blues-rooted guitar with percussion drawn from Latin American and African rhythm.
