Book Reyna Tropical
Reyna Tropical is the American project led by guitarist and singer Fabi Reyna, whose music blends Colombian, Peruvian and Mexican styles with Congolese guitar rhythms. Reyna founded the band in 2016 with DJ and producer Nectali "Sumohair" Díaz after the two connected at a Red Bull Music Academy gathering, sharing a love of Bomba Estéreo. Both were born in Mexico and raised in the United States. Before the band, Reyna had founded She Shreds Media and played guitar with acts including Priests, Raveena and Sleater-Kinney. Díaz encouraged her to sing during their early improvised sessions, which became the self-released debut EP Reyna Tropical (2018), praised by NPR for its buoyant, compact songs. That December the duo supported Bomba Estéreo on its US Jungla Tour. Since 2022 Reyna has carried the project on her own, releasing the debut studio album Malegría in 2024. Her live sets mix shimmering guitar lines, warm vocals and dance-friendly grooves drawn from across Latin America and Africa, creating an atmosphere that is both reflective and celebratory.
