Plies reached number two on the Billboard 200 with each of his first two albums, The Real Testament (2007) and Definition of Real (2008), and scored top-ten Billboard Hot 100 hits with "Shawty," featuring T-Pain, and "Bust It Baby Pt. 2," featuring Ne-Yo. Born Algernod Washington in Fort Myers, Florida, he played wide receiver for Miami University in Ohio before leaving college to pursue music. He signed with South Florida's Slip-n-Slide Records in 2004 and, after four mixtapes, partnered with Atlantic Records in 2006. "Shawty" became his mainstream breakthrough, and The Real Testament also produced "Hypnotized" with Akon. Da REAList (2008) and Goon Affiliated (2010) followed, and he later released music through his own Big Gates Records, including Ain't No Mixtape Bih 3 and The GOAT (2019). His 2016 single "Ran Off on da Plug Twice" returned him to the charts, and his candid, often hilarious videos have made him a social media favorite. He has earned a Grammy nomination over his career. Mixing raw street storytelling with radio-friendly R&B collaborations, Plies brings a deep catalog of 2000s Southern rap hits to the stage.
