Born November 7, 1989, she first made her mark in 2007 when she joined the provocative street art group Voina, taking part in its performance pieces before helping to create Pussy Riot and its blend of punk music, art and protest. Her work has earned significant international recognition, including the LennonOno Grant for Peace in 2012 and the Hannah Arendt Prize in 2014, and she was awarded a honorary doctorate in 2019. Beyond music and art, she founded the media project MediaZona. She is also an author: Read & Riot: A Pussy Riot Guide to Activism appeared in 2018, and her book Police State followed in 2025.
