Book Moderatto

Moderatto was a rock band from Mexico City famous for over-the-top stage characters that lovingly sent up the excess of 1980s glam metal. The group grew out of a late-1990s cover act formed by five friends, among them Jay de la Cueva, Olallo Rubio, Iñaki Vazquez, Marcelo Lara and Javier Ramírez, and made its mainstream debut with Resurrexión in 2001, powered by the singles "Márchate Ya" (2001) and "Isabel." El Detector de Metal followed in November 2004, led by a cover of Timbiriche's "Muriendo Lento" (2004) recorded with pop star Belinda. The 2006 album ¡Grrrr! produced "Sentimettal" (2006), which reached No. 3 on the Mexican Top 40 within three weeks. The band kept the volume up through Queremos Rock (2008), Carisma (2012), Malditos Pecadores (2014), Volviendo Japonés (2016), the career-spanning collection Moderatto XV: Todos Los Éxitos (2017) and Rockea Bien Duro (2022). Their reach extended well past Latin America, including July 2010 shows at Yokohama's Red Brick Warehouse and The Trump Room in Tokyo's Shibuya district. Moderatto's legacy is a catalog of arena-sized riffs, spandex swagger and Spanish-language rock anthems.
