Book Khruangbin
Khruangbin is a trio from Houston, Texas, whose name is the Thai word for airplane. Laura Lee Ochoa plays bass and sings, Mark Speer plays guitar and sings, and Donald "DJ" Johnson handles drums, keyboards and vocals. Their instrumental-leaning sound pulls Thai rock, dub and Iranian pop into American soul, rock and psychedelia, creating a groove-heavy world-music sound that feels both vintage and new. The albums are The Universe Smiles Upon You (2015), Con todo el mundo (2018), Mordechai (2020), Ali (2022), A LA SALA (2024) and The Universe Smiles Upon You ii (2025), six studio releases in all. In 2024 the band received a Grammy Award nomination. Live, Khruangbin is known for relaxed, hypnotic sets with distinctive visual styling, long instrumental jams and a close, easy interplay among the three musicians.
