Book Junior Brown
Junior Brown is an American country guitarist and singer famous for the guit-steel, a double-neck instrument he created in 1985 that pairs a standard six-string guitar with a full lap steel. Playing it from behind as it rests on a stand, he jumps between twangy honky-tonk licks and searing slide runs, often within the same song. Born in Cottonwood, Arizona, he spent the 1960s and 1970s playing guitar and pedal steel with groups such as Asleep at the Wheel and later taught guitar at Hank Thompson's country music school in Oklahoma. His albums include 12 Shades of Brown (1993), Guit With It (1993), Semi Crazy (1996), Long Walk Back (1998), Mixed Bag (2001), Down Home Chrome (2004), Deep in the Heart of Me (2018) and His & Hers (2021). He has earned three Grammy nominations and reached the Billboard country singles chart twice. His two guit-steels, nicknamed Old Yeller and Big Red, are as much a part of the show as his deep baritone. Live, Brown delivers a dazzling mix of traditional country, surf, rockabilly and blues virtuosity.
