John Mayer is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist celebrated for pairing pop craftsmanship with serious blues and rock chops. Born in 1977, he studied at Berklee College of Music before heading to Atlanta in 1997, where he formed the short-lived duo Lo-Fi Masters with guitarist Clay Cook and then built a following in local clubs. After a showcase at South by Southwest in 2000 he signed with Aware Records, an imprint of Columbia, which carried his EP Inside Wants Out (1999). Room for Squares (2001) produced "Your Body Is a Wonderland" (2001), which won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, and Heavier Things (2003) went to number one on the Billboard 200. Turning toward blues, he formed the John Mayer Trio for the live album Try! (2005), then released Continuum (2006), which won Best Pop Vocal Album, with "Waiting on the World to Change" also taking a Grammy. Later Grammy winners include "Say" and "Gravity", and he holds seven Grammy Awards from 19 nominations. Battle Studies (2009) and Born and Raised (2012) followed, and he has also toured with Dead & Company. Mayer offers dazzling guitar and beloved songs.
