Book Gym Class Heroes
Gym Class Heroes is a rap rock group out of Geneva, New York, whose story began in 1997 when rapper Travie McCoy and drummer Matt McGinley met in a high school gym class. Their sound mixes hip hop with rock, funk and reggae. After an independent debut, the band brought in bassist Eric Roberts and guitarist Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo, signed with Pete Wentz's Fueled by Ramen imprint Decaydance Records, releasing The Papercut Chronicles (2005) and building a following at The Bamboozle and the Vans Warped Tour. As Cruel as School Children (2006) delivered their crossover hit "Cupid's Chokehold" (2006), a No. 4 Billboard Hot 100 hit, along with "Clothes Off!!". MTV named them Best New Artist at the 2007 Video Music Awards. The Quilt followed in 2008, and the band played the 2008 Warped Tour. McCoy released the solo album Lazarus in 2010, and the group returned with The Papercut Chronicles II (2011), whose lead single "Stereo Hearts" (2011) also climbed to No. 4 on the Hot 100. In 2025 they were inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame. Live, they bring genre-blending grooves and big hits.
