Book Erik Spoelstra

Erik Spoelstra is a Filipino-American basketball coach who leads the Miami Heat and the U.S. national team, and who holds a rare place in sports as the longest-tenured active head coach with a single team across the four major North American leagues. Known as "Spo," he was a four-year starting point guard at the University of Portland, where he was named West Coast Conference freshman of the year in 1989 and joined the school's 1,000-point club. He then played professionally and coached in Germany before joining the Heat, where he worked as an assistant coach and director of scouting from 2001 to 2008, a stretch that included the franchise's 2006 NBA championship. Promoted to head coach for the 2008 to 2009 season, he has guided Miami to six NBA Finals and won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013, making history as the first head coach of Asian American heritage to lift a title in the major North American leagues. In all he has three NBA championships with the Heat. Spoelstra brings an insider's view of building a winning culture, developing talent, managing star players and sustaining excellence.
