Book Daniel Pipes

Daniel Pipes is an American historian, author and foreign policy commentator who has focused his career on the Middle East and American policy toward the region. He earned his doctorate in medieval Islamic history at Harvard in 1978 after study in Freiburg and Cairo, and his dissertation became his first book, Slave Soldiers and Islam (1981). He later shifted his attention to modern Islam and the politics of the region in the wake of the Iranian revolution. Pipes has taught at Harvard, the University of Chicago, Pepperdine University and the U.S. Naval War College, and he ran the Foreign Policy Research Institute and then established the Middle East Forum, which he leads as president and which publishes the Middle East Quarterly. He also founded Campus Watch. He has written sixteen books, among them The Rushdie Affair: The Novel, the Ayatollah, and the West (1990) and Conspiracy: How the Paranoid Style Flourishes and Where It Comes From. He has held a visiting fellowship at the Hoover Institution at Stanford and advised Rudy Giuliani's 2008 presidential campaign. Pipes offers audiences a direct, detailed take on Middle East politics and U.S. foreign policy.
