Book Cirque du Soleil
Cirque du Soleil is the Montreal-based entertainment company that reinvented the circus for a modern audience and grew into the biggest producer of contemporary circus anywhere. Its roots trace to a band of Quebec stilt walkers and street performers, and Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix launched the company in Baie-Saint-Paul in 1984. The debut production, Le Grand Tour du Cirque du Soleil, caught on that same year, and Nouvelle Expérience, directed by Franco Dragone, set the stage for rapid growth. Cirque's signature is theatrical, character-driven storytelling built around acrobatics, live music and striking design, with no performing animals. Through the 1990s and 2000s it expanded from a single show to dozens of productions seen in over 300 cities across six continents, including several permanent shows in Las Vegas. Its music has become a catalog of its own, with seven studio albums such as Zarkana (2013), Alegría (2019), ECHO (2024), Songblazers (2024), ‘Auana (2026) and LUDÕ (2026), along with a Grammy nomination. The company was honored with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star and inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2002.
