Book Candlemass
Candlemass is an epic doom metal band from Sweden, started in 1984 in Upplands Väsby, outside Stockholm, by bassist and songwriter Leif Edling with drummer Matz Ekström. Their 1986 debut, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, gave the epic doom genre its name, and the band is counted among the big four of doom metal alongside Pentagram, Saint Vitus and Trouble. Nightfall (1987), Ancient Dreams (1988) and Tales of Creation (1989) deepened that reputation, and the group went on to release Chapter VI (1992), Dactylis Glomerata (1998), From the 13th Sun (1999), King of the Grey Islands (2007), Death Magic Doom (2009), Psalms for the Dead (2012), The Door to Doom (2019) and Sweet Evil Sun (2022), thirteen studio albums in total. They broke up in 1993, came back four years later, parted again in 2002 and have been recording and performing since reforming in 2004. Candlemass has received a Grammy nomination. Their stage show centers on slow, crushing riffs and operatic vocals.
