Book Barbara Bonney

Barbara Bonney is an American soprano celebrated for lyric roles in the operas of Mozart and Richard Strauss and for her artistry as a recitalist in German song. She began her career in 1979 at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, debuting as Anna in The Merry Wives of Windsor, and soon appeared across Europe, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and La Scala. In 1987 she made both her Metropolitan Opera debut, as Naiad in Ariadne auf Naxos, and her Vienna State Opera debut as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, and she later sang Servilia in La clemenza di Tito at the Salzburg Festival. Her recorded legacy runs to dozens of albums, among them L'elisir d'amore (1987), Le nozze di Figaro (1988), Die Zauberflöte (1988), Die Fledermaus (1988), Hänsel und Gretel (1990) and Italienisches Liederbuch (1994). She contributed "The Willow Song" to the Shakespeare collection When Love Speaks (2002) and sang on Steve Nieve's Welcome to the Voice (2006). She has also taught at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Royal Academy of Music. Bonney brings a pure, radiant voice and refined musicianship to recitals and concerts.
