Ahmed Best is an American actor, comedian and musician celebrated as the voice and motion-capture performer behind Jar Jar Binks, the instantly recognizable Gungan of the Star Wars universe. Before Hollywood, he spent two years in the acid jazz group the Jazzhole, co-writing and co-producing the albums The Jazzhole, And the Feeling Goes Around and The Beat is the Bomb, and he toured the United States and Europe with the percussive stage show Stomp. It was his athletic movement in Stomp that caught the eye of casting director Robin Gurland, leading George Lucas to cast him in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999). He reprised the role in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), and across seven episodes of the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars. His comic take on the character in Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II earned him an Annie Award for voice acting. Best also hosted Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge and voices Roux in the video game South of Midnight, sharing stories as a pioneer of performance capture.
