Book Adam McKay
Adam McKay is an American writer, director and producer whose career runs from sketch comedy to Oscar-winning political satire. Trained in Chicago improv at The Second City and ImprovOlympic, he was a founding member of the Upright Citizens Brigade before joining Saturday Night Live in 1995 on the writing staff. By 1996 he had been promoted to head writer, a post he kept until 1999, and he directed early SNL Digital Shorts. Teaming with Will Ferrell, he directed Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), Step Brothers (2008) and The Other Guys (2010), and the pair built the comedy site Funny or Die through Gary Sanchez Productions. McKay then turned to sharp-edged drama and satire with The Big Short (2015), which won him the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay plus a BAFTA, followed by Vice (2018) and Don't Look Up (2021). He has been nominated for Best Director and Best Picture, has worked on Succession and Ant-Man (2015), and in 2019 launched the production company Hyperobject Industries. As a speaker he connects comedy, storytelling and big social issues.
