A Sunny Day in Glasgow is a shoegaze band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, known for dreamy, layered soundscapes where shimmering guitars and stacked vocals blur into pop melody. Founder Ben Daniels started the project in 2006 with friend Ever Nalens, who supplied the name after living in Glasgow, and Daniels' twin sisters Robin and Lauren sang on the early songs. The debut EP The Sunniest Day Ever (2006) hit No. 1 on NYU's WNYU and drew early blog and Pitchfork attention. After signing with Notenuf Records, the band released its first full-length, Scribble Mural Comic Journal, in February 2007 to strong reviews, including a Recommended tag from Pitchfork and a 9/10 from Drowned in Sound, which tipped it as an album-of-the-year candidate. The outtakes set Tout New Age followed that summer, then Ashes Grammar (2009), Autumn, Again (2010), Sea When Absent (2014) and Planning Weed Like It's Acid / Life Is Loss : Pop Songs 2015 (2015). Since 2010 Daniels has been joined by Jen Goma, Annie Fredrickson, Josh Meakim, Adam Herndon and Ryan Newmyer. Live, the band creates an immersive wall of sound with bright pop hooks.
