Book Tyson Gay
Tyson Gay is the fastest American ever over 100 meters, with a personal best of 9.69 seconds that stands as the national record and ties him for second on the all-time world list. At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka the Kentucky-born sprinter won gold in the 100, the 200 and the 4x100 relay, only the second man to sweep all three at one championships, and that season he was named IAAF World Athlete of the Year and Track & Field News athlete of the year. Two years later in Berlin he ran 9.71 to take 100 meter silver, the fastest time ever recorded without winning the race. He won four U.S. titles in the 100, earned the Jesse Owens Award twice, and picked up ESPY Awards in 2008 and 2011. Before turning professional he sprinted for the Arkansas Razorbacks, and as a high school senior in Lexington he won the state 100 meter title with a championship-record run. At the 2008 Olympic Trials he also ran a wind-aided 9.68 in the 100.
