Book OutKast
Outkast won six Grammy Awards from 16 nominations, including Album of the Year for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, a rare top honor for a hip-hop record. Big Boi and André 3000 formed the duo as Atlanta high school students in 1992 and went on to put Southern rap at the center of the genre, mixing sharp verses with funk, psychedelia, jazz and electronic ideas. Their 1994 debut, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, took off on the strength of "Player's Ball," which topped Billboard's Hot Rap Songs listing. ATLiens (1996) and Aquemini (1998) deepened their reputation with critics, and Stankonia (2000) brought them to the mainstream with "B.O.B." and "Ms. Jackson," a Hot 100 chart-topper that won a Grammy for duo or group rap performance. The 2003 double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was their only record to open at number one on the Billboard 200. At the 46th Grammys it collected Album of the Year and Best Rap Album, while "Hey Ya!" won Best Urban/Alternative Performance. "The Whole World" earned them another duo rap Grammy. Their five studio albums remain touchstones of the hip-hop canon.
