Book Nia Vardalos
Nia Vardalos is a Canadian actress and screenwriter who wrote and starred in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the 2002 sleeper hit that began as her one-woman stage show. The film earned her an Academy Award nomination for best original screenplay, plus Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations, and it grew into a franchise that includes My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 in 2016. She also hosted Saturday Night Live in 2002 and won a Canadian Comedy Award for her film performance. Vardalos trained at Chicago's Second City, where she wrote and performed in a long string of sketch revues and won the city's Joseph Jefferson award for best actress. Before her breakthrough she took small parts on The Drew Carey Show and Two Guys and a Girl and voiced characters in NPR's 1996 radio version of Return of the Jedi, written by Brian Daley. She went on to write and star in Connie and Carla in 2004 and shared screenwriting credit on the 2011 comedy Larry Crowne.
