Book Henry Paulson
Henry "Hank" Paulson is an American investment banker who served as the 74th U.S. secretary of the treasury from 2006 to January 2009 under President George W. Bush. An Eagle Scout who played football at Dartmouth, he began his career in Washington as a staff assistant at the Pentagon from 1970 to 1972 and then worked for John Ehrlichman in the Nixon White House. Paulson joined Goldman Sachs in Chicago in 1974, made partner in 1982 and led the firm's Midwest investment banking group and in 1988 took charge of its Chicago office. He went on to co-head investment banking, served as chief operating officer from 1994 to 1998 and succeeded Jon Corzine as chief executive, later serving as chairman and CEO. He visited China dozens of times during his Goldman career and built close ties with its leadership. Bush nominated him in May 2006 to succeed John Snow at Treasury, where he served through the end of the administration. In 2011 he founded the Paulson Institute, focused on sustainable growth and the environment, and he is executive chairman of TPG Rise Climate.
