Book Freddy Adu
Freddy Adu is a Ghanaian-born former American soccer player, an attacking midfielder who was hailed as "the next Pelé" before he had played a professional game. In January 2004 D.C. United picked him in the MLS SuperDraft, and at 14 he became the youngest American pro athlete to sign a contract; that April he set another age record as the league's youngest player to take the field when he came on against the San Jose Earthquakes. Both marks have since been broken. He debuted for the senior U.S. national team at 16 in 2006, after representing the country at under-17 and under-20 level, and later played for the under-23 side. Leaving D.C. United in 2006, he moved through 15 clubs in nine countries, among them Real Salt Lake, Benfica, Monaco, Belenenses, Aris, Çaykur Rizespor, the Philadelphia Union, Bahia, Jagodina, the Tampa Bay Rowdies, KuPS in Finland and Las Vegas Lights. He received the Great Immigrants Award in 2007.
